Yes the Italians can lay claim to fabulous pizza, stunning pasta and amazing coffee. But they also lay claim to producing first class gelato. On my previous trip to Italy, every day my son and I would say “It’s gelato o’clock”, which of course could be any time of day. Il Gelato di San Crispino is reputed to be the oldest gelateria in Rome and is touted as the best. At San Crispino you won’t find any special concoctions, no whipped cream or chocolate sauce.
